Volunteer Spotlight- Sandy Wenzel

Sandy has been a volunteer for 18 years and has attended 18 Races!

Sandy’s Story:

“I have volunteered since race #2, I am a 21 year survivor, and I have attended every race since!
I mostly volunteer at packet pick-up, both getting teams ready and at the survivor booth for pick-up.
The last several races I have headed up the survivor pick-up. I help Carol Rogers in this area.
At race #2 my son worked at St.Mary’s with Bernie Duetsch, she had him volunteer for her committee and he got my husband and I to work.
You ask what was inspirational…Each time we walked in the parade of survivors…you just have to be inspired.
One year we got on site very early, in time for sunrise that was so special and at the end of the parade that year they let doves go. That was really special!”
